Each year I treat the Vino and Canvas team to a fun night out during the holiday season as a way to say “thank you” for all of their hard work, flexibility, and dedication throughout the year. On November 30, our team enjoyed an evening of wine tasting, education, delicious appetizers, and bottling our own wine at Su Vino Winery in Old Town Scottsdale. I had heard about the establishment from a friend and thought it would be something that the group would enjoy. Besides, our company name is Vino and Canvas and as we always say, “the vino comes before the canvas”.

We arrived at Su Vino Winery to find a table neatly prepared for us and were immediately greeted by the charming staff. Cory Whalin, Proprietor/Winemaker, was our host for the evening. Not only was he fun and enthusiastic, but he was also very knowledgable about the wines and wine making business. We indulged in nearly every appetizer on the menu and sampled at least half a dozen wines! I am confident there was an extra sample or two.

As a mobile painting party business with events taking place throughout the Phoenix Valley, we are rarely all in one room together. We often only catch one another in passing. This gathering was a special time for us to catch up with one another and share stories. For me, it was a reminder that I am truly fortunate. Our team is connected. They are friends with one another and simply enjoying being together. These relationships are important when working together at events, for making our customers feel at home, and for growing the business.

After wine tasting and chatting, Cory introduced us to the wine bottling area of the establishment. I’ve had the pleasure of blending my own wines before but never actually bottling! This was an exciting process to see and we were all thrilled to participate. I had made up a one-of-a-kind Vino and Canvas wine bottle label prior to the event and the labels were beautifully printed and waiting for bottle placement. From sanitizing, to filling, to corking, to sealing, and labeling… We each bottled our own bottle and had something to take home to remember the evening. The process was surprisingly easy!

If you are in Old Town, stop by Su Vino Winery. It is not only filled with fun wine themed gifts and beautiful gift baskets but lots of wine! Sample some wine! Cory and his team will not disappoint.
